The second day of the India vs West Indies second Test match at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed a mix of superb batting and a dramatic run-out that stirred emotions. India began the day strongly, continuing from their dominant first day, where opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored an impressive 173 not out. Unfortunately, a crucial moment early in the day marred the proceedings when Jaiswal, who was on 175, was run out after a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill.

What happened between Gill and Jaiswal?

The run-out incident occurred just after the start of play on Day 2. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was keen on reaching his third Test double century, pushed a full delivery towards mid-off and immediately called for a quick single.

However, Shubman Gill did not respond to the call, appearing intent on preserving his wicket and signaling to stop the run. This miscommunication left Jaiswal stranded halfway down the pitch.

The West Indies fielder Tagenarine Chanderpaul quickly gathered the ball and threw it to the striker's end, where wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach dislodged the bails to complete the run-out with Jaiswal well short of his ground.

The dismissal ended Jaiswal's outstanding innings at 175 runs, much to his frustration, leading to a brief, heated exchange between him and Gill on the field.

Despite Jaiswal's disappointment, he later commented, "Run outs are part of the game, it's fine."

He explained that at the start of the day, he was focused on the team's goal and his personal goals, aiming to bat cautiously early on to set himself up for easier scoring later. Jaiswal noted that the wicket was still good and praised the bowling effort of their team.

“There is always a thought to know about the team's goal and personal goals at the start of the day. I was trying to get in early yesterday. I was thinking of batting for an hour, and it'd be easier to score later. Wicket is pretty good still, we are bowling well,” Jaiswal said after end of Day 2’s play.

India dominated Day 2 of the Test match

Throughout the day, India maintained their dominance. On the first day, Jaiswal had built a formidable foundation with a mixture of caution and aggression, including 22 fours off 253 balls, delighting fans with fluent strokeplay and excellent shot selection.

After India declared their innings at 518/5, the West Indies struggled against disciplined Indian bowling, losing early wickets and finding it tough to contain the strong Indian top order.

Ravindra Jadeja, standing in as captain, led an effective bowling spell that kept the West Indies under pressure.

By the end of Day 2, the West Indies were trailing by 378 runs, after losing 4 wickets, as India looked set for another commanding performance in the series. Jadeja took three wickets himself.
