In what can be described as a riveting Wimbledon 2023 final, Novak Djokovic clashed with World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and found himself battling not only his opponent but also an increasingly supportive crowd and scrutiny from the referee over time violations.

Throughout the match, the crowd's support was towards Alcaraz leaving Djokovic facing a seemingly hostile environment. Talking about the time taken to serve, Djokovic occasionally resorted to buying a few extra seconds during his service motion.

The Serbian superstar's service routine often exceeded the allowed time, taking 33 seconds compared to Alcaraz's 27 seconds.

The referee's warnings and the crowd's vocal displeasure put Djokovic under added pressure. Djokovic, in the second set tie-break, was finally reprimanded with a penalty for time violation for pushing the limit throughout the match until that point. The decision from umpire Fergus Murphy received a rousing cheer from the crowd at the venue.

Even India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin joined the conversation on Twitter, adding his own touch of sarcasm to the Djokovic situation and wrote, "Time violation".

In the commentary, Todd Woodbridge said, "Djokovic is very good at trying to halt the momentum. When he is 30-0 or 40-0 down he takes a lot longer on his serve.

"If the clock is not being officiated to the degree we would expect then it is an advantage to Novak".
