Akash Deep came to the crease as a night watchman on Day 2 after Sai Sudharsan was dismissed in the dying moments of the day's play. Akash Deep also had come in as a night watchman during the Lord's Test. However, he was not able to do anything on that day.
But, everyone close to the Bengal pacer knows how much he is capable with the bat in hand. In fact, he started his cricket career as a batter and then shifted to bowling.
Akash Deep started the third day of the test match, scoring some boundaries, frustrating the English camp. The frustration continued as Ben Duckett even returned his 'hug' to him. Soon, Akash Deep crossed his highest test score and then went on to complete his maiden test fifty as well.
The medium pacer celebrated his fifty ecstatically, and the Indian dressing room was as joyful as him. It even brought a smile to Gautam Gambhir's face as well. Though Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill wanted him to take off this helmet during the celebration, Akash Deep decided against it. Finally, Akash was dismissed by Josh Tongue on 66, his highest first-class score.
