India's star all rounder, Hardik Pandya, will soon the Indian team in T20Is as he has been officially cleared to resume bowling. After weeks of monitored rehabilitation and conditioning work at the Centre of Excellence, the clearance marks the first major step in his return to India’s T20I squad ahead of the upcoming series against South Africa.

For the Indian team management, the update arrives at a crucial time when the search for balance in the middle order and the need for a seam-bowling all-rounder has been more pressuring them ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Pandya had been away from the international setup following an injury that required a structured recovery plan. His absence left India without a dependable finisher who could also contribute quality overs in the powerplay and middle phase.

With the T20 World Cup coming up faster than ever, the selectors were keen to ensure his workload was handled with caution, particularly on the bowling front. As per reports, BCCI informed Pandya and CoE to concentrate on recovery for the World Cup and hence, he wasn't even a contender for the ODI series against South Africa.

Domestic matches to sharpen rhythm before international return

Before rejoining the national camp, Hardik Pandya is expected to feature in a few domestic T20 fixtures like the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. These games will allow him to gradually increase his bowling load while also getting back into rhythm with the bat. The BCCI’s medical and technical staff will continue to monitor his recovery, ensuring that no further setbacks arise during competitive play.

The team management is optimistic that a successful domestic outing will help Pandya recover and play as a fully match-fit all-rounder rather than a batter-only option. His return is particularly significant for the T20I format for the upcoming World Cup.

If he completes the domestic games without discomfort, Pandya is expected to be named in India’s T20I squad against South Africa. His presence would instantly strengthen India’s balance, deepen the batting order, and offer leadership experience in pressure situations.
