Stokes won the battle between the captains as he trapped Gill in front of the wicket in the 50th over of the inning.
The England captain was bowling his 8th over, and he was continuously moving the ball away from Gill, after angling it in from wide of the crease. Gill left the first ball of the over, thinking that the ball would leave him. However, it came back sharply and hit Gill's front pad. Umpire Rod Tucker took his time before raising the finger.
Hoping for a miracle, Gill took the DRS, but the replay showed the ball would have been hitting the stumps. And since he had left the ball and had no intention of playing it, the 'impact' which was outside the line did not matter.
Gill was out on 12 from 23 balls. After that historical inning in Edgbaston, where he became the first in test history to score a 250+ and 150+ in the same test match, Gill failed to score big.
On the eve of the Manchester test match, Shubman Gill had raised questions on England's 'time-wasting' policy and how that had triggered him to do the things he was not supposed to do.
Barmy Army, who are famous, or you can say infamous, for their banters, trolls, and mocks, did not waste any time putting out the tweet, mocking the Indian captain.
Earlier in the day, England had asked India to bat first. Anshul Kamboj was handed the debut cap for India, while Liam Dawson made a return to test cricket after 8 years for England. At the time of writing this article, India is 155/3 in 54 overs.
