Well, poetic justice is a vital component of any sport and at the moment, there is no better exponent of that concept than Angelo Mathews. The Sri Lankan all-rounder, following his freak 'timed out' dismissal earlier today, is likely to have returned to the field with a point or two to prove and one imagines his eyes to have lit up when Shakib Al Hasan walked into bat.

What went down at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium

The Bangladeshi skipper, of course, finds himself in the eye of the storm after the controversy hit the headlines a short while ago but by no means did he seem weighed down by the call he took. If anything, he looked at his tenacious best as he accompanied the set batter Shanto in the run chase against the Lankans at Delhi's Arun Jaitley stadium. The crowd, though, wished to see Angelo Mathews facing off against Shakib Al Hasan and the dead rubber between the two teams suddenly grew in stature owing to this contest. And following a long tussle, it was Mathews who got the better of Shakib as he got him to edge out a ball to cover.

Ever so subtly, Sri Lanka's senior player would stand and point at his watch to suggest 'time out' to Shakib Al Hasan, who walked away quietly having scored a gritty 82 from 65 balls. The crowd cheered on with gusto and Pommie Mbangwa on air couldn't contain his excitement either, proving that tensions were simmering under the surface of this unique contest.

"Justice Served," say netizens

And as expected, reactions came pouring in from all corners as soon as Shakib Al Hasan was dismissed. A majority of them are in favour of Mathews who is believed to have exacted revenge for the unfair call against him. "Justice served," said a few users while others shared their two cents about what could now be termed a new page in the book of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh rivalry.
