Suryakumar Yadav begins his road to recovery as he hits the nets at NCA for the first time since undergoing sports hernia surgery, boosting hopes of an early return to competitive cricket.

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has resumed net practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, marking a significant step in his recovery from sports hernia surgery. The right-handed batter had undergone surgery in June 2025 in Munich, Germany, and has since been on a structured rehabilitation program.
This is the first time SKY has returned to the nets after his surgery. As per reports, the training session was light and monitored closely by medical staff at the NCA. He is expected to gradually increase his workload in the coming days, with the goal of regaining full fitness in time for the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9.

SKY’s injury was a setback following a phenomenal IPL 2025 campaign, where he scored 717 runs in 16 matches, becoming the second-highest run-getter of the season. His consistent performances have made him one of the most dependable batters in India’s T20I setup.
This sports hernia issue was his third major injury-related surgery in recent years. Despite these setbacks, he remains central to India’s white-ball plans, especially with several senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja stepping away from the T20I format.
The T20I series against Bangladesh, initially scheduled for late August, has reportedly been postponed. This worked out as a boon for Suryakumar as it gave him some extra time to complete his rehab without rushing into match play. The BCCI medical team is believed to be working closely with strength and conditioning coaches to manage his return carefully and avoid any relapse.
If all goes well, he is likely to feature in India’s squad for the Asia Cup and could be fully match-fit for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as well. His presence is crucial in India’s squad as he is the captain and banks on an aggressive, modern-day batting approach in T20s, and his ability to accelerate through the middle overs is unmatched.
Suryakumar’s return to the nets is not just a sign of physical recovery, but also a psychological boost for a side that relies on his fearless batting style. With no official word yet on his return to competitive cricket, the next two weeks at NCA will be critical in determining his availability.
