Tamil Nadu's Under-23 cricket team has etched its name in domestic history by clinching the Men's U23 State A Trophy Elite Final 2025-26. The young guns delivered a commanding performance, defeating Uttar Pradesh by 56 runs in the summit clash held in Mumbai. This victory underscores Tamil Nadu's dominance in age-group cricket and signals the emergence of promising talent ready for higher stages.

Tamil Nadu’s path to glory

Tamil Nadu topped Elite Group D with five wins from six matches, boasting an impressive net run rate of 1.543, edging out Uttar Pradesh on the points table.

They advanced through a clinical quarterfinal win over Andhra by five wickets and a semi-final demolition of Bengal by 101 runs.

Uttar Pradesh, no pushovers themselves, secured their final spot with strong group stage showings and knockout victories, setting up a high-stakes showdown at a neutral venue in Mumbai.​

Tamil Nadu dominated the final

In the final, batting first, Tamil Nadu posted a competitive total, leveraging their top-order stability and middle-order firepower to set a challenging target.

Uttar Pradesh mounted a spirited chase but faltered under pressure, crumbling by 56 runs as Tamil Nadu's bowlers struck crucial blows.

Fifties from SR Athish (53 off 38), S Mohamed Ali (57 off 67 balls), and Manav Parakh (57 off 78 balls) helped Tamil Nadu score 297 in the first inning. Prashant Veer was the star for Uttar Pradesh with the ball as he returned with 10-30-3.

During the chase, G Govinth struck early for Tamil Nadu as Uttar Pradesh lost three wickets for 17 runs. CSK and Delhi Capitals star Sameer Rizvi tried to consolidate with a 41 off 52 balls, while Prashant Veer added 87 off 65 balls to keep UP in the game.

But, Tamil Nadu kept getting wickets in crucial junctions of the match to seal the final by 56 runs. S Mohamed Ali returned with 10-46-5 to hand Tamil Nadu the victory.
