A seemingly ordinary day turned into a scene of violence in Savalagi village, nestled in Karnataka's Bagalkot district, when a heated altercation over a cricket ball turned into a brutal attack, leaving a school teacher seriously injured.

The incident occurred on the grounds of a local school, where students and youth had gathered for a friendly game of cricket. During the match, a cricket ball reportedly landed near the residence of Ramappa Pujari, a 36-year-old primary school teacher. What should have been a simple retrieval quickly turned into a life-threatening situation.

Pavan Jadhav, a 21-year-old local youth, approached Pujari to recover the ball. However, when the teacher allegedly told him that the ball had not entered his property, tensions flared. A minor verbal disagreement between the two escalated rapidly, resulting in Jadhav attacking the teacher in an uncontrollable rage.

Eyewitnesses were horrified as Jadhav first used a broken bottle and then a knife to stab Pujari multiple times. The teacher sustained severe facial injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The shocking nature of the attack was compounded by the fact that it occurred within school premises and was captured entirely on CCTV footage. The video, which quickly circulated on social media, sparked widespread anger and concern across the region.

Local authorities responded promptly. Using the surveillance footage, Bagalkot police were able to identify and apprehend the accused within hours of the incident. An official investigation is underway, and charges have been filed against Jadhav for attempted murder and assault.

The incident has ignited a broader conversation about the rise in violent behaviour among youth and the growing need for effective conflict resolution and emotional regulation education in communities. Local leaders and education officials have called for initiatives to provide better mentorship and behavioural guidance to young people to prevent such tragedies in the future.
