Gautam Gambhir, India's cricketing icon and current head coach, faces off-field threats after receiving chilling emails from a group claiming to be ‘ISIS Kashmir’ following Pahalgam terror attack.

Gautam Gambhir, one of India's cricketing icons and now the head coach of the national team, finds himself in the eye of a different storm—this time off the field. On Tuesday, just hours after a devastating terror attack shook Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, Gambhir received a chilling email from a group claiming to be ‘ISIS Kashmir’. The message was brief but terrifying: “I Kill You.”
His office confirmed that two such emails arrived—one in the afternoon and another later that evening. Gambhir, never one to take such threats lightly, immediately reached out to the Delhi Police and filed an official complaint. Security around his home and family has since been tightened.
This isn’t the first time Gambhir has been threatened. Back in 2021, during his tenure as a BJP member of parliament, he received a similarly disturbing email. Yet, as before, he remains calm and composed, focused on what lies ahead.
Gambhir had just returned from a quiet family vacation in France earlier this month, enjoying a brief respite from the spotlight after India’s triumphant Champions Trophy campaign in March. With the Indian Premier League currently in full swing, head coaches typically get a short break, and Gambhir was using the time to be with his loved ones.
But the events in Pahalgam struck a chord with him, just like they did with millions across the country. Taking to social media, he posted a heartfelt message: “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.” It was a clear and emotional response—one that showcased his unfiltered patriotism.
Appointed head coach of the Indian team in July last year, Gambhir has brought the same fierce determination to his coaching that once defined his batting. Stepping into the shoes of World Cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid, he’s embraced the challenge of rebuilding and inspiring a young, fearless squad.
