It has always been difficult for teams like Bangladesh to stay consistent in the Test format. The Bangla Tigers have long been striving to establish itself as a consistent force in international cricket, especially in the longest format.

Despite steady progress over the years, the team’s performances in the World Test Championship (WTC) have been underwhelming, and many experts remain doubtful about their ability to compete with the elite sides consistently.

The 2025-27 WTC cycle is already underway, and the pressure is mounting for the Tigers to show tangible improvement if they hope to change perceptions and make a meaningful impact.

While Bangladesh has a passionate home crowd and some talented players, their track record away from home remains a significant concern. This inconsistency has made it difficult for Bangladesh to climb the WTC points table or even position themselves as genuine contenders for the final stages of the tournament.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra did not hold back in his recent remarks about Bangladesh’s chances in the WTC 2027 cycle. "I won't even talk about Bangladesh because you don't reach at all. You don't even come in the list. People start looking at getting points when they play against Bangladesh, especially when Bangladesh are touring. Bangladesh trouble people at home for sure," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

"Their away series are against Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. They will host England, the West Indies and Pakistan. They can trouble England, Pakistan and the West Indies. They might compete against Sri Lanka (they have lost the series 1-0). They will get hammered in Australia and South Africa. They might not come close to qualification again," Chopra concluded.

Their home performances may offer some respite, but the real challenge lies in translating that into results overseas against some of the best teams in the world. Without a marked improvement in away matches, it will be difficult for Bangladesh to make serious headway in the WTC standings.
