India’s one of the best batters across formats, Virat Kohli, has been an incredible batter throughout his career. While maintaining his fitness, Kohli maintained his hunger for scoring runs. Now, he has retired from Test and T20I cricket, giving away the chance of scoring 100 centuries. Until now, Kohli has scored 82 centuries across formats. He will be playing in ODIs and is just 18 centuries away. So, if he sticks around for the ODI World Cup 2027, there are high chances of him breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Australia’s legendary batter Ricky Ponting was an all-format player. He has 10k+ runs in both white and red ball cricket, which is a rare feat. He has played in T20Is, but couldn’t ace it. In Tests, he scored 13378 runs in 168 matches at an average of 51.85, while in ODIs, he played in 375 matches and amassed 13704 runs at an average of 42.03. Ponting had a different energy whenever he was on the field. He was a batter full of aggression, and a captain with intense game knowledge. Overall, it was a power-packed combination.
The West Indies’ cricketers had a different form back in time, leading the cricket world with examples. One such cricketer is Sir Vivian Richards, who is still quite famous for his aggressive batting in red-ball cricket. The fearless batter and a brilliant bowler, Richards was a perfect all-rounder. In 121 Test matches, he amassed 8540 runs at an average of 50.53 along with 31 wickets. Meanwhile, in ODIs, he played in 187 matches and scored 6721 runs at an average of 47, and claimed 118 wickets.
Another legendary cricketer from the West Indies, Brian Lara, ruled the hearts of the fans for quite a long time. He is considered one of the greatest because of the scores and wickets across formats. In Tests, he played in 131 matches and scored 11953 runs at an average of 52.88. But in ODIs, he played 299 matches and amassed 10405 runs at an average of 40.48. He also claimed four wickets. He was literally an all-rounder as he has played football and table tennis as well. But it was cricket that attracted all his attention, and he became devoted to it.
West Indies’ one of the most deadly all-rounders of all time, Sir Garfield (Gary) Sobers, has terrific records in red-ball cricket. Not only a batter, he has been an incredible bowler as well, which is a huge plus point for any team. If we take a look at his stats, he played in 93 Test matches and 8032 runs at an average of 57.78. Meanwhile, he has taken 235 wickets at an average of 34.04. He was an inspiration for many before his retirement.
Sir Don Bradman is the only cricketer in the world who has a batting average of 99.94 in Test cricket. Australia’s former batter has played only Test cricket and scored 6996 runs in 52 matches. In his last Test innings, he required just four runs to maintain the 100 average, but was dismissed on a duck on the second delivery, leaving the entire cricket community baffled. He played from 1928 to 1948 and retired early, leaving a chance for the upcoming generation to break his records. While some feats have been broken, the Test average remains intact under Bradman’s name.
Known as the Master Blaster worldwide, India’s former legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has made a name for himself in international cricket. Starting from scoring runs across formats to even surprising the opponents with his occasional bowling, Tendulkar has done it all. He is the only batter in the world to score 100 centuries in cricket. That’s a rare achievement and seems like it will stay for a while under his name. He is also known as the ‘God of Cricket’ by many because of his feats. Moreover, Tendulkar is still the leading run-scorer in Test (15,921) and ODI (18,426) cricket. It will take a while for current players to reach the scores put up by him.
