Virat Kohli is making a strong comeback to international cricket, preparing intensely for his return to the ODI format against Australia this October. After retiring from Test and T20 international cricket, Kohli has focused on refining his batting skills, as shown by his recent indoor practice session in London with Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naeem Amin. This comeback follows a stellar IPL 2025 season where he played a crucial role in Royal Challengers Bangalore's maiden title win.

At 36, Kohli remains one of the most formidable batters in ODI cricket, holding a record 51 centuries and over 14,000 runs. His recent performances include top-scoring in the 2023 World Cup with 765 runs.

The upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia from October 19 to 25 is highly anticipated as it marks his official return to the Indian team after a gap caused by the postponement of the Bangladesh series initially slated for August.

However, there is speculation about the longevity of the "Big Two", Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, in international cricket. Both players are in their late 30s and are eyeing the 2027 ICC World Cup in South Africa as a potential swan song.

Given their ages and limited white-ball fixtures scheduled before then, questions loom over how management will balance experience with nurturing younger talents like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer.

It is speculated that to demonstrate their readiness, Kohli and Rohit may have to participate in domestic tournaments such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a tough ask for players who have been icons of the format for over a decade.
