Virat Kohli’s nephew Aryaveer is set to make his debut for South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League 2025. Unlike his famous uncle, Aryaveer is a leg spinner and idolises Shane Warne.

For every cricket icon, the legend of their name often casts a long shadow, especially on family. For Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, the next generation’s journey has been a tough one: Rohan Gavaskar never quite became a permanent fixture, and Arjun Tendulkar is still working his way through domestic ranks.

Unlike his world-famous uncle, Aryaveer is not entering the cricket frenzy as a batsman but as a right-arm leg spinner with the late Shane Warne as his bowling muse. Bagged at auction for ₹1 lakh, Aryaveer is entering a team captained by IPL star Ayush Badoni, while ex-India spinner Sarandeep Singh takes charge as head coach. Mirroring Kohli’s own early years, Aryaveer has been coached since boyhood by Rajkumar Sharma at the West Delhi Cricket Academy.
IPL sensation Digvesh Rathi, renowned this year for headline-grabbing wicket celebrations, has also been keeping a close eye on the young leg spinner’s progress. While Aryaveer’s roots ask for instantaneous scrutiny, he denies feeling the burden of the surname Kohli.
“I don’t think much about it,” Aryaveer told CNN-News18 Cricketnext. “I have come to play, and that is what I think about. There is a lot of excitement. It is a big platform. It will be fun. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very chill. The preparations are going well. Sarandeep sir has been helping me a lot from the first day itself to improve my bowling. I will definitely try to give my best.”
Head coach Sarandeep Singh is clear-eyed about Aryaveer’s potential and work ethic, not his surname:
“He’s a nice boy, training really hard in the nets and trying to give his best all the time. In fact, he comes to training before time. So, I think that gene has been inherited,” Sarandeep smiled. “But as of now, he is very young but focused on his game. Whenever his time comes, he will definitely perform well and do his best.”
