New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had earlier won the toss and opted to field first, hoping his bowlers could restrict India on a batting-friendly surface. However, the Indian batting lineup delivered an explosive performance.

Openers Abhishek Sharma (52) and Sanju Samson (89) laid a strong foundation, while the middle order maintained the momentum to post a huge total on the board.
