While the preparations have started for the tournament, India are unlikely to have Washington Sundar join the team for the warm-up match. According to reports, Sundar still hasn't got the green signal for the World Cup and is likely to spend more time in recovery.
Sundar sustained an injury in his lower rib during the first ODI against New Zealand on January 11 in Vadodara. As per medical reports, he sustained a side strain and had to miss the ODI and T20I series. The all-rounder is still a part of the 15-member squad in the World Cup 2026. However, his participation isn't guaranteed yet.
Team India have joined the camp on February 3, ahead of the start of the ICC event. The players have gathered together after the T20I series against New Zealand to start the preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026. The recent series ended on a high note as India won by 4-1.
India's star batter Tilak Varma recently missed the T20I series against New Zealand as he went through a testicular surgery. However, he has made a comeback into the team. Varma has recovered from the surgery and got the green signal to play in the World Cup. He was then included in the India A squad led by Ayush Badoni, where he slammed a half-century against USA, announcing his arrival in style.
Varma has joined the Indian team ahead of the tournament and is likely to play at No. 3 or 4 position as per the team's demand. Since he is in an incredible form, having him around will boost India's confidence for the tournament.
