BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that IPL 2026 matches scheduled in Guwahati will proceed as planned despite the upcoming Assam assembly elections.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is all set to start from March 28 and will continue upto May 31. There will ten teams who will clash against each other throughout the two months, giving their best for that ultimate title. The BCCI has announced the schedule for the first 20 games and will reveal the rest once the election schedule releases.

Talking about the same, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed that the matches in Guwahati will not be shifted despite the elections in April and May. He stated that the board has taken permission from the government and hence, the matches will be conducted as planned. Rajasthan Royals (RR) will play in Guwahati.
"There will be no rescheduling of IPL matches in Guwahati in Assam. I have already spoken to the honourable Assam Chief Minister (Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma) and the Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta. Both have assured me that the they will manage (to conduct the matches), and there's no need to change (the schedule)," said Devajit Saikia as quoted by TOI.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 30 in Guwahati. This is RR's home turf and they will play most of their games here. For cricket fans in Guwahati, the confirmation comes as exciting news. The city will once again host IPL action at the Barsapara Stadium, reinforcing its growing reputation as an emerging cricket venue in India.
With the elections and the tournament taking place around the same period, authorities will now focus on ensuring that both events are conducted successfully without affecting each other. Moreover, the teams will clash after the epic trade of Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson. Hence, it will be intriguing to see how they'll play against each other.
