Wimbledon 2025: Two former champions among the 8 vying for the Wimbledon 2025 title on July 13, 2025

Wimbledon is only days away from finding out if Carlos Alcaraz will successfully defend his title; Novak Djokovic gets to that 25thGrand Slam title that he’s been chasing, or if the Club will have a new name in its record books. The tournament is already in the stage of 8, with the first 4 men set to be on court on July 8. On July 6, Alcaraz, Cameron Norrie, Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov had advanced to the quarter-finals, with Jannik Sinner, Djokovic, Ben Shelton and Flavio Cobolli joining a day later.

Fritz and Sinner were given walkovers, after their opponents retired hurt. In Fritz’ case, he was one set up when Jordan Thompson called it quits. With Sinner, though, it seemed that Grigor Dimitrov was all set to send the World No.1 packing. Dimitrov was 2 sets up and scores levelled at 2 games in the third, when he could not go on anymore, following what appeared to be a pectoral injury.
It’s been a while since Fritz and Khachanov have played each other, but in the two meetings they’ve had so far, the latter has gotten the better of the American. Way back in 2019 and 2020, Khachanov beat Fritz at the Shanghai Masters and then the ATP Cup, both of which were on outdoor hard courts. This is Khachanov’s second quarter-final appearance in Wimbledon since 2021, when he lost to Denis Shapovalov. For Fritz, this is the third quarter-final appearance at this Slam; he’d lost to Lorenzo Musetti last year.
The second match of the day has the defending champion playing Cameron Norrie, with whom he has a 4:2 head-to-head record. Alcaraz is, no doubt, the clear favourite to win this bout, but Norrie will go in knowing that he’d beaten the two-time champion in straight sets during their last encounter.
