WTC 2025–27: India’s position strengthens after England series

India jump to 3rd in the WTC 2025–27 standings after a thrilling win at The Oval. With tough away tours ahead, Gill’s men face a real test of consistency and resilience.

India's historic victory against England at the Kennington Oval, London was a combined effort effort of the entire team. This win has helped them jump up in the WTC points table for the 2025-27 cycle. By the end of the third Test match, India were stuck at the fourth position. However, a draw and a win helped them jump one position higher and reach the third position in the points table.

The Men in Blue are above England by two points and a higher PCT. This happened as England lost two points due to slow over rate in the Lord's Test. While many theories came up as to both the teams bowled less overs, it was later clarified that England were two overs late. Currently, India have 46.67 PCT and 28 PT, while the hosts have 43.33 PCT and 26 PT.

These minor differences will make a huge difference later in the cycle as all the teams will be in the qualification scenarios by then. After a wonderful series, India's confidence level will be extremely high and going forward, this will help the Shubman Gill and Co. to face the opponents with grit and enthusiasm.

What's next for Team India?

The Men in Blue have an entire year in front of them in terms of the sports cycle. However, before the start of the Asia Cup 2025 in September, India have a gap of almost a month. This will help the players recover from the one-month long Test series. For someone like Mohammed Siraj, who believes in giving his best, it's extremely important to give the body some rest before coming back in action.

Once the sports season starts for India, there's no gap in between. After the end of the Aisa Cup, they will play a 2-match Test series against West Indies. Then, Australia are touring India for a 3-match ODI series, followed by a 5-match T20I series until the start of the November. Then, India will be occupied with the Test series against South Africa, starting on November 14. Post that, they'll play a white-ball series from 20th November to 19th December.

This way, they'll end their 2025 season. From January, India will play a white-ball series against New Zealand followed by England. Since the season is long and the players will not get enough rest, the upcoming one month will be extremely valuable for each of them. The fans will surely be looking forward to watching their favorite players back on the ground from September.
