An interesting moment lit up Day 4 of the fifth and final Test between India and England at The Oval, as Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal engaged in a verbal spat with England’s Ben Duckett, creating a buzz both on the field and online. With tensions already running high, the flashpoint occurred during England’s second innings chase when Jaiswal, fielding close in, threw a pointed taunt at Duckett that struck a nerve.

The incident unfolded after a dot ball from Mohammed Siraj. Jaiswal, in an animated tone, called out Duckett, saying, “Come on, I want to see your shots. Play the sweep, reverse sweep. This is not your game!” a dig clearly referencing Duckett’s natural aggressive style, which he had seemingly abandoned in the tense run chase. Duckett, visibly annoyed, shot back, “Why should I listen to you?”

The brief exchange, caught on stump mic and widely circulated across social media, has added another spicy layer to what has already been a fiercely contested series. The umpires intervened quickly, and the situation didn’t escalate beyond words, but the intent was clear: India wanted to get inside England’s heads, and Jaiswal was leading the charge.

Interestingly, just a few overs later, Duckett fell for 54, edging one from Prasidh Krishna to the slips. The timing of the wicket right after the exchange has led fans and commentators alike to credit Jaiswal’s verbal jab as a successful mental tactic, unsettling Duckett at a crucial moment.

India, having posted 396 in their second innings thanks to a century from Jaiswal himself and valuable contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, set England a daunting 374 to win. At 50/1 overnight, England hoped for a strong start, but the Indian bowlers, backed by vocal fielders, kept chipping away.

This wasn’t the only incident involving Jaiswal. Earlier in the match, he had a brief run-in with Ollie Pope as well, with the young Indian star increasingly taking on the role of a field general, spurring his team with both words and energy.

The Oval Test has reached an interesting point as England require just 57 runs to win the match and seal the series. Joe Root and Harry Brook played an amazing knock to help England reach this point.
