You remember her for Splitsvilla and later, Ace of Space. Divya Agarwal has literally grown up around reality shows. While she is soon to be seen in AltBalaji's Cartel, Divya is currently enjoying her time in the Bigg Boss OTT house.
OTTplay caught up with the actress to discuss Bigg Boss and her long-standing connection with the show. While she spoke about her ex Priyankk Sharma who was also a part of the show, Divya also discussed how reality shows function.
Excerpts from the interview...
You are making your much-awaited debut on Bigg Boss. What are you feeling like?
I'm going in the house during such a good time. I was chilling outside. My series is coming out soon so it's not like I'm going on the show when my acting career isn't working out. I'm going for the love of the show and to entertain my fans.
What are you expecting from the show?
My expectations are very simple. I want to show my personality. I want to show how you can be humble yet confident, simple yet so strong-headed that nothing can break you down. I'm going to set an example. I want to make my father proud. He left me last year but I know that he's watching over me. Imagine how happy he would be to see his daughter get famous worldwide.

Who has been your favourite contestant in Bigg Boss?
I followed Bigg Boss 13 closely. Back then, I was hosting Voot Night Live parallely. I had seen all the contestants and their games closely. I think Rashami Desai and Sidharth Shukla performed well. They are quite opposite but I loved a few points from both of them. Rashami is my friend too. She's like an elder sister I never had. She keeps asking how I am. I'm very inspired by both of them.
There were reports that Varun Sood would enter the show. Were you both approached as a couple?
I don't know. They used to tease him. He refused stating that he did Khatron Ke Khiladi but won't be able to take up Bigg Boss. It was the vice-versa for me. I wouldn't mind staying in the house for even a year.
You have worked with a few people who have been a part of Bigg Boss' journey in the past few years. Did you learn anything from them? Did they give you any tips?
Everybody did! It feels like I'm going to my in-laws. They ask me to cook good food, wear decent clothes, not fight among other things. I constantly question why they want me to change for a show? I don't want to take advice after which I will have to sit outside the show. Then I will blame that person, so I'm trying to avoid that whole situation. I want to take my own responsibility. I'm a different personality. I'm confident because I know nobody like me has entered the house for 14 long seasons. I'm very excited to show people who I am.
At one point in time, your name was associated negatively with the show. Will you be clearing the air on that?
I have already done that actually. You would be glad to know that me and Priyankk Sharma are on good talking terms now. We are good friends who love and respect each other's work. We've been immature at times. Now it is all fine. My life is an open book. Everybody knows everything because I haven't hidden any of my emotions in front of my fans. Now I'm not scared of anything.
Will there be a limit for you when it comes to tasks?
There will be. I love myself. I could do everything but I'm not crazy enough to go through torturing myself. I am competitive in a task and that spirit will never go away. If the tasks get too much on my mental or physical health, I will take a break. That's what a task is supposed to be like, right? If you cannot go through with it, then get up and leave. I cannot stand people who go through the task and keep abusing it at the same time.
What category do you fall in? Will you stay back or walk out?
I will try my best to stay on task. I'm going with the intention of giving my all to the tasks. If something happens anyway, then I won't shy away from accepting that I can't go ahead with the task.
How long do you think you can survive the tough situations?
I can manage. I've managed so much in life and this is just a part of it. Thankfully I have so many well-wishers in my life. I believe in manifestation and know that nothing will be difficult for me.
What are your thoughts on Karan Johar hosting the show?
I will welcome him with open arms. I have an interesting story with Karan Johar which I will share with him.
What would be your reaction if Salman Khan was hosting Bigg Boss OTT?
It doesn't matter who hosts the show because it is my journey at the end of the day. They are simply a host. My life will change. People will focus on me. That will be my focus, no matter who hosts the show. We are used to Rannvijay Singha but we'll get through this too.
How real are reality shows?
It depends from person-to-person honestly. Reality shows are just for the namesake. When somebody participates on a show, they do that with a mindset. So they end up writing their own script and planning games among other things. That won't be my strategy. It's a huge time duration so I can't pretend to be someone else. Bigg Boss is India's biggest reality show. Thus I want people to know my real personality. I wouldn't stress if they like it or not either.
What will you miss the most in the Bigg Boss house?
My mom, brother and Varun.
What's next for you after Bigg Boss?
Thanks to the show, I have got so many offers. A song from a Punjabi music album released. I also have Cartel, which is my biggest project till date. I'm so excited for the show but unfortunately I won't be able to watch it. However, I'm confident enough that I have worked well and so, people will like my work. As an actor, I think that will take a lot of turns. I hope casting directors and producers wait for me and give me work as soon as I leave the house.
