Director Akhil Sathyan: 'A bit of Sarvam Maya is inspired from real-life events...'| Exclusive

Sarvam Maya is receiving great reviews from viewers all around the nation, primarily because to its poignant storyline with lots of uplifting scenes. The film's director, Akhil Sathyan, disclosed in an interview with OTTplay what motivated him to write the screenplay for this Nivin Pauly film, which is currently available for streaming on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium.

'Inspiration from real-life events'

The young director disclosed that a real-life scenario Akhil experienced served as the inspiration for the film's central emotional theme, which is the brother saying goodbye to Delulu, also known as Maya Mathew, right before the doctors remove her life support. "One of our close family friends experienced a similar situation, and a child was asked to decide on removing the life support of a victim in a coma. It is an unbearable pain. I will never forget that traumatic event, which motivated me to include it as the key emotive idea in Sarvam Maya," he remarked. 

Akhil continued by saying that although he is not particularly good at writing fictitious stories overall, his writing is influenced by certain events or persons he has seen or met.

'Huge success of Sarvam Maya'

Akhil said that although he knew the film would work among the audience, he was surprised by its phenomenal earnings at the box office. "Nivin and I both needed this movie to be successful. Sarvam Maya contains all the commercial elements needed for a family entertainer, including comedy, songs, and—above all—feel-good moments that are relevant to today's world without being over the top. Additionally, I insisted on using typical situations that sometimes show up as a villain rather than any brutal antagonist in the narrative," he continued.

He disclosed that the idea for Sarvam Maya's plot originated during the production of my first movie, Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum. "This Fahadh Faasil starrer was being filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were brief schedule interruptions. At this point, I was considering a simple, low-budget movie when Sarvam Maya's storyline came to me," Akhil said.
