Pan's Labyrinth
Written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, Pan’s Labyrinth is a Spanish-language, dark fantasy film. Set in the summer of 1944 in Spain, the film tells the story of a young girl named Ophelia who, along with her pregnant mother, travels to meet her stepfather, a ruthless officer in the army. In an abandoned labyrinth, she meets a mythical creature who tells her that she is the reincarnation of the princess of the underworld, and gives her three tasks to do, completing which Ophelia will be allowed to return to her kingdom. The film won three Academy Awards.

Crimson Peak
Set in Victorian England, Crimson Peak is a ghost story like no other. The film follows a young woman who falls in love with a mysterious stranger who arrives in town accompanied by his sister. She marries the man and moves into the siblings’ mansion in England, where she experiences strange phenomena. The movie stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain in lead roles.

Hellboy
Based on a graphic novel, Hellboy revolves around a demon who enters the mortal world as an infant via a portal opened by Nazis to summon evil creatures. The portal is destroyed by a young scientist and his team while the baby grows up to be Hellboy. The movie has spawned a sequel as well as a reboot.

Pacific Rim
Featuring giant fighting robots and huge monsters that emerge from a portal in the sea, Pacific Rim is set in the future. To vanquish the monsters, humans have built Jaegers, the name given to human-like colossal robots, piloted by two people who have to be connected by a mental link. The film focuses on the story of one such pilot who, after retiring in the aftermath of losing his brother in battle, is forced to return to partner up with a rookie and fight the monsters once more.
