Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, opened to polarising reactions. Despite the strong criticism that it received, the film went on to become a box-office hit. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 2023. However, that hasn't stopped other actors from slamming the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. In an interview with Neelesh Misra, 12th Fail actor Vikas Divyakriti heavily criticised Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna's film.
12th Fail actor Vikas Divyakriti believes that a film like Ranbir Kapoor's Animal takes our society back by 10 years. "A film like this should not be made. You earned money. You showed that your hero behaves like an animal," he told Neelesh Misrra. Divyakriti added that there should be some social value in the film. But he wondered if people were only working for financial value.
The actor further shed light on the scene where Ranbir's character asks Triptii Dimri's character to lick his shoe. "After watching the film, what if some boys who are of a feudal mindset and are not that mature want to test their girlfriend’s love by asking them to lick their shoe. What then?" added Vikas.
Meanwhile, the star cast of Animal includes Ranbir, Rashmika, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Suresh Oberoi, and Triptii Dimpri, among others. The film's total box office collection is Rs 532.77 crore in India (including all languages). Animal was released in cinemas on December 1, 2023. It clashed with Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh's film Sam Bahadur at the box office.
Meanwhile, Vikas Divyakriti's film 12th Fail, which featured Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr in the lead roles, was a box-office success. The film also gained momentum when it was released on Disney+ Hotstar.
