Malayalam movie 2018 has been shattering previous box office records and creating new ones every day. Starring Tovino Thomas in the lead, the movie has already become the highest-earning movie in the history of Malayalam cinema.

According to the trade, the movie has raked in Rs 160 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. 2018 has earned a whopping Rs 80 plus crore in Kerala alone. And the film's collection from across the country is pegged at Rs 14 crore. If 2018 maintains its pace for the next few days, it will become the first-ever Malayalam movie to earn Rs 100 crore in India alone. The chances are it could also well become the first movie in the history of Malayalam cinema to earn Rs 100 crore at the Kerala box office.

2018 is showing the true potential of the Kerala box office, which has always been considered smaller in size and potential compared to its neighbouring states.

Following the phenomenal success of the Malayalam versions, the filmmakers last week released the movie in multiple languages to widen its audience base. The film seems to be doing particularly well in the Telugu states. The movie received rave reviews from celebrities and audiences there and is also gaining a lot of momentum in the ticket window. According to reports, the Telugu version has earned close to rs 4 crore on its opening weekend, which is significant for the Malayalam industry.
