Kanmanipoove - the first track of Thudarum, Mohanlal and Shobana’s first collaboration in over two decades, took the audience on a nostalgic ride, as is evident from the comments of the YouTube video that was released on February 21.

The track, which is rendered by MG Sreekumar, the voice behind a lot of evergreen Mohanlal songs, and composed by Jakes Bejoy, is a soulful melody about a family. The visuals show the background of the family of four – with Mohanlal as a taxi driver and the endearing relationship he shares with his wife, essayed by Shobana, and his two children. Mathew Thomas of Anandam and Narayaneente Moonaanmakkal plays his son in the Tharun Moorthy directorial.

Audience love Mohanlal and Shobana’s chemistry in Kanmanipoove

Netizens recalled the lead pair’s chemistry in movies such as Nadodikattu, Pavithram, Pakshe and TP Balagopalan MA. With Sreekumar once again lending his vocals to the track, the makers seem to be sure that it evoked nostalgia, much like how Chinnamma and Minungum Minnaminuge from Priyadarshan’s Oppam almost a decade ago.

“How long has it been since we heard a song with such a feel,” commented one user, while another added, “The soul is full, the eyes have welled up and the ears have relaxed. A good song after a long time.”

Users also hailed Mohanlal and Shobana’s combo from the visuals. “90’s Mohanlal and Shobana,” wrote one user, while others recalled how the duo can represent the common people and still make them relatable and endearing to everyone.

Meanwhile, another user commented how the track was similar to Sreekumar’s Panchami Thinkal from Friends that was composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
