The way the country hopped on the bus to Aashram in 2020 is still a fascinating chapter in the history of Indian streaming. The show, led by Bobby Deol, who plays Baba Nirala, is one of the most successful shows in the Indian streaming space, consistently ranking among the top mentions in viewership. Helmed by ace director Prakash Jha and also starring seasoned actors like Chandan Roy Sanyal, Aaditi Pohankar, and an ensemble cast, the show, initially on MX Player, was soon moved to Amazon Prime Video after a deal between the streamers but still remains free for fans. Now, as we are all still coping with Aashram Season 3 Part 2, in an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Aaditi and Prakash have discussed the fourth season of the show.
Filmmaker Prakash Jha, who is also the creator, writer, and director of Aashram, sat down with OTTplay alongside Aaditi Pohankar, who plays Pammi in the show. The two spoke about various things, from how they view the current crop of content to Aaditi juggling between the sets of Imtiaz Ali’s She and Aashram, as the second seasons of both shows were shot in parallel. When asked about the presence of violence in content, Aaditi shared a beautiful perspective, which was then supported by Jha, who probably ended up hinting that Aashram Season 4 will explore a darker side of the story.
Talking about content and the violence in streaming, Aaditi Pohankar said, “I think we are all driven by time. And we are driven by this time, and in this time, this is what resonates with everybody—that is what I feel. And we will move to another time, and things will change. I think what comes out of certain stories like Aashram is hope, faith—it doesn’t die; in fact, it becomes stronger through Pammi. I feel, as a character, she has moved from faith to faith, but from faith of innocence to faith of strength—that has been my graph up till now. Also, the hope that there is a better time and that you can change things with consistency. If you hold fire to a paper, it will burn because it is constantly sending that energy.”

Prakash Jha added, “You might change yourself. Also, if you are not able to change things, you might change yourself. You might become darker.” When quipped that maybe he just dropped a hint about Aashram Season 4, Aaditi said, “Yeah, maybe that's the hint.” Jha added, “I have no idea.”
But since he had already dropped the hint, we asked Prakash Jha about his previous comment that he wanted to pass on the directorial duties from Aashram Season 4. While Aaditi said, “We won’t let that happen,” Prakash Jha added, “I am trying my best. Aashram 4 itself is in hope right now. Let the time come, we will see. I was talking about any story (addressing his comment about going darker) since we were discussing genre. Anything can happen. Either the situation will get darker, or we will. Stories aren’t about brightness. A story is always about the accident and not the event. Otherwise, there’s no story.”
There are no official details or confirmations on Aashram Season 4 yet, but one thing is certain—there will be one, as fans are already craving it. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
