After cancelling Henry Cavill as Superman, DC co-CEO, James Gunn has suffered several backlashes since the past two years. Highly disappointed with the decision, fans once started a thread of boycotting DC films on social media. Even Warner Bros. has suffered huge losses this year with Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. These two films have created history by being the worst of all of DC.

However, earlier this year, James Gunn finally opened up and revealed that Superman: Legacy will be showcasing Superman’s younger days, more like his past life, hence, they needed an actor who is quite young. Therefore, Henry Cavill is not suitable for the latest film.

Superman: Legacy star-cast

A few months back, James Gunn finally unveiled that David Corenswet will be portraying the titular role of Superman aka Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor as Nicholas Hoult. Now Gunn has almost finished assembling all the cast for Superman: Legacy. Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Isabele Merced as Hawkgirl.

Fans' concern for so many superhero characters in one film

After getting to know all the characters, some fans raised questions for overloading the film with so many comic book icons. Hence, recently addressing that concern, James Gunn announced his commitment to building a universe organically, not just cramming in superheroes for cheap thrills. “I call that “Cameo Porn” and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films. If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise”, Gunn wrote in a post on Thread.net.

What did James Gunn say?

“I don’t mind actual cameos, if it’s a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg. What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in, they aren’t there because the story calls for it, but for some other reason”, Gunn further added.

Superman: Legacy release date

Directed by James Gunn, Superman: Legacy is scheduled to release on July 11, 2025 in the theatres by Warner. Bros.
