Shahid Kapoor is channelling his inner action hero yet again for his upcoming film with Ali Abbas Zafar. It was recently reported that the upcoming action thriller, tentatively titled Bloody Daddy, would be making its way directly onto OTT. Zafar recently confirmed the reports, and opened up about why he chose to opt for a digital release of the film.

In conversation with Pinkvilla, the director said that despite being the Bollywood adaptation of a French Film, 2011’s Nuit Blanche, it was a ‘complete rehaul’ of the original. The film was going to be presented as a brand new film, and Zafar was excited about the fact that it would present Kapoor in his first out-and-out actioner for the first time. Referring to the film as a cool and contemporary action flick, Zafar revealed that the film had a beautiful story and also took on the hues of a commercial pot-boiler.

The filmmaker revealed that he had always intended for the film to be an OTT release as it was designed for the digital sphere and made in a style that would suit an OTT audience. “I don’t want the film to be censored because there is a certain kind of blood, action, and guns in the narrative”, he added.

Opening up about the film, Zafar said that Bloody Daddy was entirely new territory for him, since the story takes place over the course of one night, with the entire narrative being centred around Kapoor’s character. The director also revealed that they were planning to release the film by the end of the year or early next year.

The film, which is produced by Zafar and his partner, Himanshu Mehra, will reportedly feature Diana Penty as the female lead, although an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.
