The final trailer for Annette, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, was released ahead of its theatrical release next week. The original musical is helmed by Leos Carax, who won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director.
The trailer gives a more focused look at the two characters of the film, Henry McHenry played by Academy Award nominee Driver and Ann Defrasnoux played by Academy Award winner Cotillard.
Henry is a popular stand up comedian and Ann is a renowned opera singer. The story will traverse through the love story of these two very different performers, under the glaring spotlights of Los Angeles. Their glamorous life takes a turn with the arrival of their first child, Annette, a girl with a gift.
The trailer ensures the cloud of uncertainty about the movie and does not reveal much. Even with all the glamour and romance, the instability of the relationship was visible in the trailer. There is also very little we understand about the titular character from the trailer.
The music for Annette is by the iconic pop-rock band Sparks. The duo of Ron Mael and Russel Mael also play themselves in the film. Combining the Sparks’ music with Carax’s visual style of filmmaking could make Annette a modern day musical that warrants a watch.
