Anamika star Sunny Leone on why she feels like she’s ‘typecasting’ herself

Sunny Leone’s newest web series, Anamika, released yesterday. In the thriller series, the actress essays the role of a fierce agent, a role she seems to have enjoyed playing. The actress recently opened up about her new web series, and how it is different from the kind of roles people expect her to take up.

In a conversation with The Indian Express, the actress said that she enjoyed every moment she spent making the series, referring to the role as her ‘alter ego’. She talked about how much fun she had learning how to do different things for her role, such as fighting. Calling her role on the show different from her usual work, she said she was excited about the prospect of audiences seeing her portray an ‘unexpected’ character.

Elaborating on the same, Leone said that people usually expect her to play glamorous, sensual characters, which she had no problem doing if the role required it. “Maybe that’s me typecasting myself or maybe it is not something they see me doing, let’s just say that!” she added.

The actress calls her Anamika character ‘well balanced’ and although the show does involve moments of intimacy, it is still different from what people had expected from her. Leone also credited director Vikram Bhatt for helping her flesh out her character better in the web series. She said that the director had ‘nurtured’ her in a way that no one else had before, and he had taught her a lot. The actress also said that the way he had put in all his trust and effort in her made her emotional.
