When it came to making his OTT debut, Anil Kapoor was determined that he wanted an edgy script. AK vs AK (2020), in which the actor collaborated with his son Harsh Varrdhan, was one of his most intriguing undertakings in recent years. After two years apart, the father-son duo has reunited for another Netflix offering. They have shot a vengeance noir thriller titled Thar, which marks Raj Singh Choudhary's directorial debut, according to mid-day. The story was written by the filmmaker, who collaborated on the dialogue with Anurag Kashyap.
Thar, a film inspired by Western noir, is set in the 1980s and revolves around Harsh Varrdhan's Siddharth, who relocates to Pushkar for work. When he arrives in the city, he sets out on a quest to avenge his past wrongdoings. Anil is known for being picky about his initiatives, especially those that require him to share screen time with his children.
A trade source told the tabloid that when Anil heard the script for Thar, he fell in love with it. He believed it was the ideal story for him and Harsh Varrdhan after AK vs AK. According to a trade source, he submitted the script to his son, who "immediately agreed to do it," adding that the senior actor also joined as a producer.
Harsh Varrdhan's love interest will be played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. The source also said that the film was shot on a start-to-finish schedule in Rajasthan last year, with Raj closing it off in the first week of March 2021.
Anil is ecstatic to be working with the OTT behemoth, believing that the platform's and AKFC Network's creative goals are well aligned. The actor said in a statement that he is looking forward to seeing the movie for a variety of reasons. The noir thriller is a novelty for Indian cinema and pays homage to the classic Western genre. This is a place where the vitality of young blood collides with the wisdom of industry veterans. As an actor and a producer, he has worked hard to create entertainment that challenges the status quo. Anil explained that this preoccupation manifests itself in the film.
