Animal, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer had its OTT release on Netflix, a few days back. Interestingly, certain scenes in the film are now getting compared to Suriya’s act as Rolex in Vikram.
Ranbir Kapoor’s latest blockbuster Animal finally had its OTT release on the renowned streaming platform Netflix, last weekend. The movie, which marked the Bollywood superstar’s first collaboration with Arjun Reddy fame director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has divided the audiences with its controversial content. As you may know, a large group of the audience has been heavily criticizing Animal for its problematic, misogynistic, and violent storytelling.
However, what caught our eye is the increasing comparisons between Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in Animal, and popular Tamil actor Suriya’s portrayal of the character Rolex in the 2022 Tamil blockbuster Vikram.
For the uninitiated, apart from playing the protagonist, Ranvijay Singh, leading man Ranbir Kapoor also appeared in the role of his look-alike, Aziz Haque in Animal. Interestingly, the talented actor's voice is not used for this character. Instead, it was director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who dubbed for Ranbir in the scenes featuring Aziz Haque, and Ranvijay’s mistress Zoya.
However, these particular scenes have created a major debate on social media. A group of netizens, especially those who watched and loved the 2022 Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram, feel that the ending scenes of Animal which features Ranbir Kapoor’s character Aziz Haque, have a striking similarity with Suriya’s portions in Vikram. They are pointing out that the scenes are very much alike, and Ranbir’s performance as Aziz is similar to Suriya’s portrayal of the character Rolex in the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial.
The Vikram fans are now heavily trolling the makers of Animal for blatantly copying this famous scene from Vikram. The Ranbir Kapoor fans and the netizens who loved Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama, however, are defending the film stating that these allegations are totally baseless. Some also feel that Ranbir's performance is much superior to Suriya's portrayal of Rolex, which was a cameo appearance.
Check out a few audience reactions, below:
As expected, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has been receiving polarizing reactions after its Netflix release. Meanwhile, a group of audiences are disappointed because the streaming giant did not release the uncut version of the film with deleted scenes, as the makers promised earlier. However, after considering the ongoing social media discussions, it is safe to assume that Animal is going to stay relevant on the internet for a very long time.
