Almost a month after Paras Kalnawat left Anupamaa, another cast member recently bid adieu to Rupali Ganguly’s show. It was reported that Alma Hussein, who essays the role of Sara Kapadia, had recently exited the show as well.

In conversation with ETimes, Alma confirmed the news. The actress had joined the show back in May. Although she had been happy to be a part of the series, she soon realised that her track was not going anywhere. “I also felt that I was not growing as an actor. Being so young, I want to learn as much as possible, which was not happening”, she said.

Alma said that due to a number of twists and turns in the plot over the last few months, and Paras’ exit, the makers were unable to start on a storyline involving Sara and Samar. The actress said that instead of continuing on the show where her role was limited to just standing around with very little to do, she had decided to look for something else. She had spoken with the makers, who agreed with her, and they had arrived at a mutual decision to write Sara off the show. In the series, her exit was explained by Sara deciding to go to the US for higher studies.

Paras' exit from the show had been less than smooth. The actor had been terminated after he had signed on to be a part of the latest season of the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. In conversation with News18, the actor had called his termination a ‘PR tactic’ by the makers, and said that they had not even discussed the situation with him before asking him to leave. In a social media post, the actor had said that working on the show was a ‘nightmare’.

Anupamaa can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
