Anurag has a deep admiration for the talents of the South Indian film industry, and he has never shied away from expressing his respect for the industry. He also famously credited Subramaniapuram, written and directed by Sasikumar, as his biggest inspiration for making deeply rooted movies like Gangs of Wasseypur.

Anurag has also been roped in to play a key leading role in hit Malayalam director Aashiq Abu's upcoming movie Rifle Club.
