Rumours are rife that Mohanlal and Amal Neerad are teaming up this year for a big-budget film that will also have Asif Ali and Soubin Shahir. The filmmaker talks to OTTplay about his upcoming film.

Every Amal Neerad film comes with a set of expectations. And that’s also why speculations are plenty when it comes to the ace filmmaker’s upcoming projects. From Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan to Suriya and Mohanlal, over the past year, it’s been rumoured that the Big B director will be teaming up with each of these stars for his next.
The latest rumours on social media point to him finally reuniting with Mohanlal, after Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded in 2009, for a big-budget film that also has Soubin Shahir and Asif Ali. The grapevine has been buzzing, even going so far as to speculate that the movie will have 150 days of shoot and that Soubin has decided to push his directorial with Dulquer Salmaan in order to wrap up his portions for the Amal Neerad-Mohanlal film, which is reportedly being bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas.
When OTTplay got in touch with Amal Neerad to know if such a project is on the cards, the filmmaker said, “There’s still no clarity on what my next project will be. Every morning there’s something new about my upcoming film on social media that I am not aware of.”
The director, however, doesn’t deny that a movie with a superstar will be his next. “Truth be told, there have been several ongoing discussions. But we are yet to decide on which film will be next,” he explains.
Amal Neerad’s previous movie was Bougainvillea, which was inspired by Lajo Jose’s novel Ruthinte Lokam and had starred Kunchacko Boban and Jyothirmayi with Fahadh Faasil in a cameo.
Mohanlal and Mammootty, meanwhile, will be seen together in Mahesh Narayanan’s film that is tentatively titled Patriot. The movie also has Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara. Mohanlal is currently in Sri Lanka to wrap his portions for the movie, which is expected to be a 2026 release.
The Thudarum superstar will also be seen in Vishnu Manchu's Kannappa, scheduled for June 27 release, Dileep's Bha.Bha.Bha, Telugu-Malayalam bilingual Vrushabha and Sathyan Anthikad's Hridayapoorvam, which will be an Onam release.
