It’s not commonplace for a leading lady who is doing fairly well in her career to do a cameo, let alone a special number. Yet Ashika Ranganath has gone ahead and done just that for Kiccha Sudeep’s Kotigobba 3, which releases in theatres tomorrow (October 14).

The response to the lyrical video, though, has been immensely encouraging for the actress, she has admitted to having been skeptical about doing a special number initially. In an interaction with a publication, Ashika was quoted as saying that while she understood the value of being in a Sudeep film, she had to also see how it would reflect on her career before committing to it. Eventually, the actress was convinced because the team wanted her not only for her dancing skills, but also for something that she says will be for everyone to see when the song plays in the film. Also, the big draw was that the song would be more of an introductory number for Sudeep choreographed by Raju Sundaram, with Ashika featuring in it throughout.

The actress also said that her song Chuttu Chuttu from Rambo 2, in which she was paired with Sharan, was one of her biggest hits until Pataki Poriyo came along, and that audiences have begun referring to her as the Pataki Poriyo girl, which is a graduation of sorts for her.

The dance master, of course, put Ashika through the rigors, with the actress spending time rehearsing the moves with his team to avoid retakes. Composed by Arjun Janya, Pataki Poriyo, which has notched up 16 million views since its lyrical video debut, has been sung by Vijay Prakash and Anuradha Bhat. The energetic dance number has been written by filmmaker Anup Bhandari.
