Sequels seem to be the norm these days, even if the movies are based on true events. After the makers of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu’s Jana Gana Mana confirmed that the movie will have a sequel, now actor Asif Ali has hinted that his upcoming release Kuttavum Shikshayum too could have a follow-up film.

The movie, which is set to hit theatres on May 27, is scripted by police officer and actor Sibi Thomas and journalist Sreejith Divakaran. It’s based on Sibi’s experience of investigating a jewellery robbery case where a group of policemen had travelled from Kerala to Uttar Pradesh to nab the culprits.

In an interview, Asif, who plays a senior cop in the film, said, “We do want to continue this venture. (Director) Rajeev (Ravi) ettan has also told us that. Sibi sir is an officer with many years of experience; so, if not a sequel, all of us want to do another movie with these characters.”

The movie has Alencier Ley, Sunny Wayne, Sharafudheen and Senthil Krishna playing the other four important characters. Shot in Kerala and Rajasthan, the film is directed and cinematographed by Rajeev, who has ensured that the visuals look as realistic as possible.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Asif said, “For all the other films I have worked in, I ensure that I got the entire script beforehand, so I can go to the sets prepared. But what Rajeev ettan gave me was a character and he would shoot the scene after discussing it with me. If I wasn’t convinced, he wouldn’t shoot it.”

The team had the film’s first schedule in Jaipur in February 2020 and had to return to Kerala due to the nationwide lockdown. The entire shoot concluded last year. The movie is expected to begin streaming on Netflix after its theatrical run.
