Not too long ago, an interview of Shoojit Sircar went viral. This was when the filmmaker revealed that he is doing his next film with Abhishek Bachchan. Shoojit made another revelation, which was about Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Donor. The filmmaker said that he had never seen Ayushmann on TV and after seeing his photo, he asked the casting director to call him in to see if Ayushmann is fit to play Vicky. However, Ayushmann had a different story to tell during his recent interview.

What Ayushmann said

The actor was talking to Mashable when he revealed not auditioning for his debut movie. He remembered being with MTV at the time and that Shoojit Sircar was looking for somebody who’s relatable and North Indian. Ayushmann then said that Shoojit asked him to be just himself in the film. “Jaisa tu TV pe hai, waise aaja,” Ayushmann remembered Shoojit saying.

Shoojit had a different story to say

Shoojit had told The Quint that he approached many big names and they agreed that the script is great but owing to the lead character’s profession, they always backed out of the movie. That is when the casting director approached him with Ayushmann. Shoojit said that he was not aware of Roadies or who Ayushmann is back then but he called the actor in anyway. Of course, he found the North Indian-ness in Ayushmann (who is originally from Punjab and had studied in Delhi) and thus, the actor was selected for the movie. Shoojit did not talk about whether Ayushmann had auditioned for the film or not but the actor definitely went through a selection process because of which Shoojit could make a decision and they ended up with one of the most iconic films in the industry.

Ayushmann’s thought process at the time

Ayushmann revealed that he had rejected six movies before Vicky Donor came by and thus, the actor knew that an opportunity would be tough to come by. “Pehli film mein sixer maarna tha, so that’s when Vicky Donor happened,” he remembered.
