Despite the lack of superstars, Babu Antony’s Power Star is among the most anticipated films in Malayalam this year. The chief reason being that the Omar Lulu film marks the comeback of the 90s action star in the genre that defined his career.

The movie, which is scripted by the late Dennis Joseph, was set to go on floors in 2020 but the pandemic had delayed its shoot. The team began shooting for the film in April and has concluded its portions in a whirlwind schedule.

Apart from Babu Antony in the lead role, the film also has a set of actors known for their action roles including Abu Salim, Riyaz Khan and Baburaj. Earlier, it was also reported several Hollywood stars would be part of the movie but it seems those plans didn’t materialise due to the pandemic.

Even as the makers were sharing stills featuring Babu Antony in his much-celebrated 90s avatar with long hair from the film, the actor recently took to his social networking page to share an update on when the first glimpse of Power Star will be revealed.

The actor said that he is currently dubbing for its trailer, which will be out on July 8. The actor has been busy since last year – being part of projects across genres and languages. He completed shooting his portions for Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvam last year, in which he will be seen sharing screen space with Vikram, Karthi and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan. The actor had also shot for Rajeev Nath’s Headmastr, in which he had acted with his brother Thampi Antony. The movie is based on Karoor Neelakanta Pillai’s story Pothichoru.

He is next set to be part of TS Suresh Babu’s Kadamattathu Kathanar and the thriller Santa Maria, which is helmed by debutant Vinu Vijay. The veteran actor will be seen playing a journalist in the movie.
