Badhaai Do has been one of the most anticipated films of the season for the theme it carries. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, the movie is expected to handle the concept of lavender marriage, as suggested by the trailer. The marriage which hides homosexuality of the duo, seems to be an intersting and eye-opening subject, for which the movie has been making much headlines lately.
In a recent interview with India Today, Pednekar opened up about playing a queer character for the movie. She said she didn’t doubt the choice at all. She also added that it is not her sexual preferance, rather she is an actor who is performing her character. “Yes, that’s not my sexual preferance, but is my sexual preferance all that I am made up of?”, she asked.
Going forward she also questioned the idea of casting a queer woman for the role. She asked how she was not deserving of the role, while she has worked hard and has talent within. “I mean, how is that fair?” Pednekar questioned.
The actor also opened about her insights on whether South Indian films have better subjects than Bollywood. She thinks the industry has now become very pan-India, and Hindi films have had blockbusters when the question never arose. She also feels that it is unfair to take away the credibility from Hindi films.
Meanwhile, Pednekar plays the role of a PT teacher in Badhaai Do, who marries a cop played by Rao. Both of them agreed to the marriage to avoid the family pressure, while the duo identifies each other as gay. The Harshvardhan Kulkarni directorial is all set to hit theatres on February 11.
