Mohanlal is set to make his directorial debut with the upcoming 3D fantasy film, Barroz. The Malayalam superstar decided to try a hand in filmmaking after completing over four decades in the film industry as an actor. For the uninitiated, Mohanlal’s directorial debut was originally announced in 2019 and started rolling in 2021. The movie, which was delayed multiple times due to various reasons, has now finally got a release date. Barroz is slated to hit the theatres on September 12, 2024.
Barroz gets a release date
After a long wait, director-leading man Mohanlal took to his official social media handles today (May 6, 2024) and confirmed that Barroz has finally got a release date. The veteran actor’s ambitious project is gearing up to hit the big screens on September 12, 2024, as an Onam special release of the year. Along with the big announcement, the superstar-filmmaker dropped a promising brand-new poster of the much-awaited film. The new update came out as a big relief for the legend’s fans, who have been anxiously waiting for an update on the film.
In the new poster, Mohanlal, who is also playing the titular role, is seen sporting a new look in a thick beard and long hairdo. The superstar is seen sporting Western-style outfits, including a white shirt, black trousers, and a tan ivy cap. The director-actor is seen posing with an adorable little girl, who is dressed in a European-style multi-coloured gown, in the poster. The new poster also confirms that both Mohanlal and the other actors in the film might be sporting multiple looks in the film.
Barroz – Delays in release
As mentioned earlier, Barroz originally started rolling in 2021, immediately after the first wave of the pandemic, with a different star cast. Many popular actors in Malayalam cinema, including Prithviraj Sukumaran and the late Pratap Pothen, were supposed to play key roles in the film. However, the Mohanlal directorial was delayed further due to the second wave of the pandemic. Later, the director decided to scrap the already shot portions and kickstarted the shooting from scratch with a different cast.
Prithviraj made an exit from the project owing to his busy schedule. Writer Jijo Punnoose, who was a part of the crew, also made an exit citing differences with director Mohanlal. Even though Barroz was originally supposed to hit the screens on March 28, 2024, the movie was further delayed due to the delay in post-production works.
