Filmmaker Selvaraghavan, who made his acting debut, as the antagonist, in the Vijay-starrer Beast, will be headlining Bakasuran, along with cinematographer-actor, Natraj Subramaniam aka Natty. The film, directed by Mohan G, went on floors recently, following a traditional puja at the Mudhumalai Murugan temple in Salem. Bakasuran will have music by Sam CS of Vikram Vedha-fame. Touted to be a social thriller, based on a real-life incident, Bakasuran discusses an ongoing issue, which is prevalent in Salem, Coimbatore and Cuddalore. Bakasuran is produced by GM Film Corporation.
Speaking about teaming up with Selvaraghavan for Bakasuran, Mohan G, who rose to fame with films like Pazhaya Vannarapettai, Draupathi, and Rudra Thandavam, says, he's quite comfortable working with filmmakers-turned actors. "We started shooting from Monday. In Rudra Thandavam, I worked with Gautham Menon sir. We brought Selva sir on board for Bakasuran, as we needed a protagonist of his age. Also, I like the way he looks now, which will suit the character. When filmmakers turn actors, they bring in a new dimension as a performer."
Mohan G had approached Selvaraghavan after watching the trailer of Arun Matheswaran-directorial, Saani Kaayidham, in which the latter plays the lead role, alongside Keerthy Suresh. "Of course, Selva sir insisted that I narrate the Bakasuran script to him. He agreed to do this role, only because he liked it," Mohan G adds.
Speaking to OTTplay, Natraj Subramaniam says, "Though I have been asked not to reveal anything about my role, I can tell you it's a powerful one. I'm looking forward to working on this interesting project. We are currently in Yercaud, till April 29. Subsequently, we will be shooting in different parts of Tamil Nadu." On the directorial front, Selvaraghavan has wrapped up the shoot of Dhanush-starrer, Naane Varuven. The project marks the duo's collaboration after 11 years. Naane Varuven is Selvaraghavan's fourth film with Dhanush after Kaadhal Kondein, Pudhupettai and Mayakkam Enna. On the other hand, Natraj Subramaniam has multiple projects lined up, including Infinity and Web.
