Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2: Director Anees Bazmee is unable to believe his film with Kartik Aaryan is doing so well

Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has received a huge response from the audience over the three days of its release. In its first weekend, the film grossed a whopping Rs. 54.50 crore, becoming the biggest opener of this year so far. Despite facing competition from Kangana Ranaut’s film Dhaakad with Arjun Rampal, the horror comedy has managed to not only surpass the earnings of her film but also beat the records of other big releases like Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi.

Anees Bazmee, the director of the film, is stunned with the tremendous response the film is getting. Speaking with ETimes, the filmmaker said that he is grateful to God and the audience for the amazing response. He said he is pleased with the film's popularity since he felt he had created a decent, clean and pleasant entertainment that can be enjoyed by children as well. Making movies, particularly horror comedies, he claims, is difficult.

He then went on to explain how he learned from his own mistakes. "I am not saying that I succeed with all my films. I have not. At times, my judgement and gut feeling have gone wrong. But it's time that all of us in the industry learn from their own mistakes," he said.

Anees also explained why he felt this way. According to the filmmaker, his granddaughter, who has seen his film twice, says it's like a "roller coaster ride." She remarked, "jisme darr bhi lagta hai lekin maza bhi aata hai" (where she feels fear but also has fun while watching it).

The filmmaker also addressed his critics' comments about him and his works. He said they only encourage him to work better. The filmmaker admits that he gets nervous before any release. He visits theatres to see the reactions of the audience as he calls a film, an ‘acid test’.

The filmmaker had again clarified that he did not cast Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in the second instalment because he was working on a completely different project, a horror comedy rather than a psychological thriller. He always wanted to work with Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani as they have impressed him with their work over the years. He even communicated with Kartik on the phone for at least 20 minutes after his debut film Pyar Ka Panchnama. He felt his work was amazing in it. He mentioned that Tabu and he have been talking about doing a film together for a long time and that he is really delighted she chose to make this project with him.

Meanwhile, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which also features Kiara Advani, Tabu and Rajpal Yadav, is running successfully in theatres. Catch a show near you.
