Tamil Nadu BJP recently questioned an episode of the reality show called Junior Super Stars Season 4, aired on Zee Tamil. They questioned a skit that allegedly ‘mocked’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The skit was performed by two kid contestants. Following the issue, State President of IT and Social Media Cell of BJP, CTR Nirmal Kumar wrote a letter to Zee Tamil, asking them to take off the program.

The show aired on January 15 and the skit was a political satire. The kids were dressed up as a king and minister from a popular Tamil film Imsai Arasan 23 am Pulikesi. They were seen making fun of the ruler of the country Sindhiya. The kid actors were discussing about black money demonetisation.

Amidst the conversation they also said that instead of eradicating black money, the king merely wears jackets in different colours and roams around. They were also seen making fun of the disinvestment scheme and the king’s rile, which the judges and audiences applauded.

In the original movie, Tamil actor Vadivelu plays the role of the king who is controlled by the British. Many remember the king’s character from the movie as someone who would put people in jail at his whim. Though the skit seems to be narrating this king, BJP alleged that the show ‘made fun of’ the PM over the 2016 demonetisation.

Minister Nirmal Kumar also accused the channel for not taking any effort to curtail ‘blatant misinformation’ spread against the PM. He also added that the channel agreed to remove the concerned part from its website as well and abstain from re-telecasting the same, after his letter.

It is not the first time the country witnessed such incidents. A right wing activist had earlier complained against a play staged at Shaheen Primary and High School in Bidar district of Karnataka during January 2021. The incident took place while the country was discussing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and sedition was filed against the school and all the parents who took part in the play.
