The Olivier Award-winning musical, Cabaret has been transferred to Broadway Theatre for a 2024 show. Previews will begin April 1 at the August Wilson Theatre, with an official opening night of April 21. An opening gala is set for April 20.
Interesting part is, this time, Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin have teamed up for the Broadway version as Emcee and Sally Bowles. Music given by John Kander, lyrics penned by Fred Ebb, and the book by Joe Masteroff, the story is set in Berlin in 1931, as the Nazis rise to power.
Cabaret storyline
It tells the story of Cliff Bradshaw, an American writer who falls in love with Sally Bowles, a British cabaret singer. The Kit Kat Club, where Sally (Rankin) performs, is a symbol of the city's decadence and hedonism, but it is also a place where the dangers of the Nazi regime are increasingly evident.
The staging of Cabaret brings audiences up close to the action, creating a sense of intimacy and immediacy. The show has been praised for its powerful performances, stunning visuals, and thought-provoking themes.
Eddie's debut
Redmayne will be making his big Broadway debut with Cabaret. He is famous for playing unique roles in Fantastic Beasts, The Theory of Everything, The Good Nurse and The Danish Girl. Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the set of Cabaret is designed by Tom Scutt and choreographed by Julia Cheng.
The West End production Cabaret, which opened at Playhouse Theatre in November 2021, is still running strong, with Rebecca Lucy Taylor as Sally Bowles and Jake Shears as the Emcee.
