PremiumBuzz: Kartik Aaryan to headline follow up to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2?

After the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Bollywood heaved a sigh of relief as the film finally seemed to have ended the industry’s box office ‘dry spell’. The film, which was released in theatres on May 20, witnessed a brilliant opening day and managed to woo most critics and audiences as well.
Fresh off the film’s success, it was recently reported that a follow up film is also in talks, with Kartik Aaryan set to headline the project.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, a third instalment in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is being planned. The report also states that the gap between the recently released film and the third film, led by Aaryan, would not be more than two years.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is the standalone sequel to 2007’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Akshay Kumar in the lead. The original itself is a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. Directed by Priyadarshan and also starring Ameesha Patel, Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan, the original film can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar.
After its theatrical run Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix, although an OTT release date is yet to be announced. On its opening day, the film had minted more than Rs 13 crores, becoming one of the biggest openers in Bollywood in the post-pandemic era. Aaryan also got his biggest opener through the film. Directed by Anees Bazmee, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 also features Kiara Advani, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles. The film was produced under the banner of T Series and Cine1 Studios.
