Ekta Kapoor has rightfully earned the title of czarina of television, as she is popularly known by fans, with the vast number of popular shows she has backed under her Balaji Telefilms banner. It was reported that Mandira Bedi has come on board for a role in Kapoor’s upcoming new television show.
According to a report in news agency IANS, the upcoming television series is tentatively titled Sansaar. The series is reportedly inspired by the 1994 film Raja Babu, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles.
A source told the news agency that Bedi has been roped in to play an antagonist in the series, in a significant role. Her character is that of a business tycoon, and mother to the show’s female lead. Her character was described as a ‘possessive mother’.
The series will also reportedly feature Aruna Irani, Alok Nath and Pearl V. Puri in prominent roles as well. While the latter is expected to essay the role of the show’s male lead, Irani and Nath will reportedly star as the male lead’s parents. It is also being speculated that Mahika Sharma will also be a part of the show. The makers of the show are yet to make an official announcement regarding the same.
If confirmed, the series would mark Bedi’s latest collaboration with Kapoor. Bedi had also been a part of Kapoor’s popular series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which also starred Smriti Irani. The show, which ended its run in 2007, can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar. Bedi was last seen in the web series Six, which can also be watched on Disney+Hotstar.
Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures has also backed Mohit Suri’s upcoming Ek Villain Returns. The film, starring Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani, is scheduled for release on July 29.
