Cash has definitely become a fan favourite ever since its premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on November 19. It’s unique concept of trying to weave a humorous story around 2016’s demonetisation fiasco certainly was a home run. The film’s stars Amol Parashar and Smriti Kalra recently revealed how the chaotic situation that followed the government’s decision inspired the film’s witty premise.
In conversation with IANS, Smriti recalls the scenes she witnessed on the streets in the aftermath of the situation, wherein people were scrambling about to convert their money, making huge and unnecessary purchases to do so. She pointed to how the film included scenes where people started taking out their savings, which they had hidden away in outrageous places.
The actress however quickly added that the satirical film did not intend to poke fun at people’s plight, but that it represented facts of the situation in a humorous way.
Amol agreed with his co-star and said that the film’s premise was about the various tools people used to convert a massive sum of cash. It was a cautionary, yet funny story about how greed can land people in all sorts of mishaps. He also said that in reality, the majority of the money had ended its way back into circulation, signalling people’s success at their conversion efforts.
Cash tells the story of an aspiring entrepreneur who decides to set up a ‘startup’ to help people convert their black money into white, leading to some precarious situations along the way. In addition to Parashar and Kalra, the film also stars Kavin Dave, Swanand Kirkire and Gulshan Grover. The film is directed by Rishabh Seth.
