Kannada superstar Challenging Star Darshan has been working on his 56th film, called Kaatera, directed by Tharun Sudhir. The duo had earlier collaborated on Roberrt, as well as on a cameo for the actor in Chowkaa. The film, a period drama about an agrarian (farming) issue, is, according to reports, about 50% done and the team is looking at making it a 2023 release itself. December is what they are targeting, say sources close to the team. It is being speculated that the team is eyeing December 22 (Friday), as December 23 is Kisan Divas (National Farmers Day) in India.
Kaatera, produced by Rockline Venkatesh’s Rockline Entertainments, will serve as the launchpad of Radhana Ram, the daughter of action queen Malashree and late producer Koti Ramu. The film also stars Jagapathi Babu and Kumar Govind in pivotal roles. When the title of the film was announced for the actor’s birthday earlier this year, it was accompanied by a poster featuring Darshan wielding a machete and a group of people with what appear to be farming tools, in the background. The year 1974 was embossed in the backdrop, referring to the period the film is set in. At the time, netizens had said that the poster was eerily similar to that of the 2021 Tamil film Karnan, starring Dhanush. But Darshan has been quoted as saying that Tharun has adapted a real incident that happened in Hampi in the 70s for the film.
Meanwhile, Darshan, who was last seen in Kranti, which released on Republic Day this year, has a pivotal cameo in director Yogaraj Bhat’s next, Garadi. The actor plays leading man Yashas Surya’s brother in the film. Young actor Prithvi Shamanur pkays Darshan’s younger version in the film, which wrapped up shooting recently.
